January 2026 Events: Denver and Beyond
The MusicFest at Steamboat: Mon-Sat, January 5-10. MusicFest draws thousands of ski-lovin’, music-lovin’ folks to the snow swept peaks of Colorado each January. The 40th annual Music Fest features fifty bands over six days. Shows are held around town in every venue type, from ballrooms to big tents.
National Western Stock Show: Sat-Sun, January 10-25 at the National Western Complex. Since 1906, the stock shows include rodeos, horse shows, livestock, western art, and more special events spread out over more than 16 days.
Cowboy Downhill: Monday, January 19, at Steamboat Ski Resort. Professional cowboys from across the U.S., as well as Australia, Canada, Europe, and Mexico, compete in a race down Headwall near the base of Steamboat Resort.
Breckenridge International Snow Sculpture Championships: Mon-Wed, January 19-28. Teams from around the world descend on Breckenridge to hand-carve 25-ton blocks of snow into enormous, intricate works of art. Artists are only allowed to use hand tools, creativity, and inspiration to bring their ideas to life.
Ouray Ice Festival: Thur-Sun, January 22-25. The biggest ice climbing festival in North America, featuring the world’s best climbers and 100 educational climbing clinics.
Winter X Games: Friday-Sunday, January 23-25 in Aspen. X Games returns to Aspen Snowmass for the 25th consecutive year. The return at Buttermilk Mountain celebrates a quarter-century of unforgettable moments, legendary runs, and boundary-pushing performances in Aspen.
Rio Frio Ice Fest: Fri-Sun, January 23-25 in Alamosa. Three days of winter activities in the San Luis Valley. The signature event is the Rio Frio 5K, a race on the frozen-over Rio Grande River. Other highlights include ice sculptures, an ice carousel, and a polar plunge.
Snowdown: Fri-Sun, January 23-February 1 in Durango. In its 47th year, this winter celebration features a costume party, follies, parade, and an annually changing theme.
Denver Winter Whiskey Tasting Festival: Saturday, January 24. Denver whiskey lovers, this is your chance to explore rare pours, bold flavors, and a one-of-a-kind winter tasting experience.
Pond Hockey Classic: Saturday-Sunday, January 31-February 1, in Grand Lake. Visit the picturesque winter wonderland of Grand Lake to watch and/or play in this annual 3×3 ice hockey tournament featuring sixty adult teams and 8 natural ice rinks on the frozen Grand Lake.
Colorado Motorcycle Expo: Sat-Sun, January 31-February 1, at the National Western Complex. The largest swap meet in America, the 47th annual Colorado Motorcycle Expo is great for those looking to buy new bike components, check out numerous competitions, and be surrounded by other motorcycle enthusiasts.
